I'm running a 5k marathon with Team APEN to shed the extra baby fat & fight for Nate's right to thrive in a green & clean community.
There was once a little girl who lived in a neighborhood where gunshots rang out, pollutants suffocated the poor people of color, and crack houses infested the streets. While growing up she used to believe that living in these conditions were normal, but as she matured she realized that there was more to living, than just passively accepting the social condition she was placed in. So, she began to fight for herself, her family, and her community. That little girl was me.
I grew up in the inner city of North Richmond with Chevron in my backyard. When Chevron had explosions, my school would not allow me to go home due to my house's proximity to the toxic exposure. As a new mom, I never want Nate to miss home because of irresponsible-unaccountable-greedy corporations.
Running in this marathon is symbolic for my love, dedication, and determination for a healthy family and community. My Nate-Nate deserves to thrive in a green & clean community!
