Last year, I ran my first half marathon. This year, it will be my second half, but with a purpose. Thanks for joining me to help raise money for APEN - a truly awesome local organization that has been doing environmental justice work for years.
I've never been much of a runner. I didn't like it in high school, when I tried cross country for a year. In a moment of hubris, last year I decided to try a half marathon. While I'm back for a second time, I'm still not convinced I like it all that much. But I am in it again, and your show of support to APEN will be a huge encouragement for me.
And I do know that I like social justice work. If you haven't heard of APEN, you should definitely check them out. They have been engaging with local communities and organizing for environmental justice for years on a range of issues, from raising awareness on bay seafood consumption or standing up for people living in the shadow of the Chevron refinery. They are always rooted in the local, growing leadership in the communities they work with.
And they deserve your support.
So. . . Can you give 1 dollar for every mile? 2? 5? A blanket donation that has no connection to the 13 miles I'll be running? Whatever you decide you can give, know that it will be going towards the amazing activism that APEN does.
