At it again...challenging myself to run another 13.1 miles for environmental justice and APEN. Please join me!
Since I ran my first half-marathon last year, it's been a whirlwind for me! Something about the fast current of this Water Dragon year pushed me to make big moves both personally and politically.
In 2012:
1) I flew to Chicago twice for personal and political reasons, to participate in a gathering of Filipino activists, BAYAN-USA congress, protest NATO, and say goodbye to my grandmother who passed away.
2) I travelled through the Philippines for a month with my sister and a delegation of other Oakland activists. We learned more about the Filipino struggle for national liberation and struggles against climate change, especially in the wake of Typhoon Pablo. I also got to meet my family for the first time.
3) I have taken numerous trips with APEN to Sacramento to advocate for state policy to make renewable energy accessible for environmental justice communities.
4) In between, I settled into my second year of living in Oakland, which often involves organizing with my kasamas, baking, practicing kali, kicking it with my girlfriends and just trying to align practice with my politics.
Every step I've taken this year has made me feel more committed to fighting for climate justice and the liberation of our people and planet. I will make run these long 13.1 once again because I believe in APEN, a fierce, movement-building organization. And even more importantly, I believe in our community leaders' ability to bring the social justice, clean energy solutions and community resilience we need NOW!
So I ask you, as my friends and family, to contribute whatever you can spare to support community-based solutions to some of the gravest challenges facing our society today.
I just changed my goal to $750 because I got close to $500 with lots of love and support quickly. I want to keep pushing myself while I train and run. Click here to help me make this happen!
